Controlling LG CX volume with Android TV Remote

by TigerPrawnKiing

Hi All,

I have tried to find the answer for this issue all over without any luck.

I have recently bought a Humax Aura Android TV box and it is connected to my LG CX

I am trying to get my Aura remote to control the TV volume, i have gone through all the Universal Remote control codes and although the Aura remote can do basic things like turn the TV off it does not change the volume of the TV, instead it reverts to changing the Android TV system volume.

Is there a solution to this or do i always need to use my LG remote for the volume?

Thanks in advance to anyone that takes the time to read and reply.

Make sure you have CEC enabled on both the TV, and the ATV box if it has that option. Also to get my Shield TV remote to work full on my LG B8, i had to set up the shield as a streaming device on the TV itself. If you need more help lmk

I too would second the enabling of HDMI-CEC (LG calls it SimpLINK, not sure what Humax calls it).

Granted, CEC does only carry the basic cross-device functionality, i.e. one remote can only perform basic/universal commands on another device, especially if they're not the same brand.

That said, I'm kinda surprised that your android box has its own volume settings, rather than just doing line level output and controlling the TV's volume instead.

HDMI-CEC volume control is extremely fickle on Android TV. Some work, some don't. Volume control support is separate from power controls and switching support. Here's my experiences:

My Nvidia Shield works on every TV and AV I own. The Google Chromecast with TV does volume control over IR, not over HDMI-CEC. The Ematic Jetstream doesn't work at all on my LG TV or my Receivers, but will raise the volume on both my Sony TV and it's own variable volume at the same time (weird). The Dynalink rebrand of the ADT-3 doesn't support anything.

I've read the Mi Box S similarly doesn't support volume control, and instead applies it's own dynamic volume support like the Ematic and Dynalink.

I don't know why the Ematic works on my Sony TV, but not my LG TV and not on my receivers. But it raises and lowers the Android volume and TV volume at the same time. At this point, use a universal (IR) remote, two remotes, or consider a Shield TV.

This is what Humax support said in reply to my enquiry:

Hi

Thank you for contacting Humax, I'm sorry to hear about the trouble you're experiencing with your Humax equipment.

Hi there regrettfully the function that you are able to control via the Humax remote is dependent on the 3 digits codes supplied by the TV manufacturer.  It may be the case that simply there may not be a compatible code for that kind of TV I am sorry to say as all codes we had available come in the Units manual.  It may be worthwhile contacting your TV manufacturer to see if they have any further codes that could be tried.

Dear Sir/madam,
I have recently purchase a Humax Aura and i am trying to connect the Aura remote to CEC to be able to control my TV
I have tried all the codes listed for my TV, LG CX however although i can control on/off and AV source i cannot change the TV volume. When i try to change the TV volume it just changes the Aura System volume.
The instructions in the manual states that volume can be changed and other similar boxes are capable of changing TV audio. Can you please let me know if there is anything i can do to fix this issue or if it is not currently supported ?
Kind regards

TPK

UPDATE:

In case anyone cares. Humax just pushed a firmware update for the Aura and it now allows TV volume to be controlled with the Aura remote!!! That's the end of that mystery.

I was so happy about this that i texted my wife, she didn't care.
