Accessing Android TV USB HDD over wifi

by bevan182

Hi, I have a HDD plugged into my Sony Android via USB. I'd love to figure out a way to transfer files to it without having to disconnect it. Does anyone know of any ways around it? any apps or functionality I'm unaware of?

Do you have access to the Play Store on this TV? If so, you can download X-plore file manager on it and there are multiple ways to transfer files with it.

If it has playstore, then download send files to tv. It's the best app for sharing files.

I ended up putting my USB drive on my network, rather than connecting it directly. As I understand, Android TV no longer allows write access unless it is formatted for internal storage.

Many routers allow you to attach USB drives, but mine did not. See this:

ES File manager has a network explorer should be able to access through.

Also you could set up Kodi adding the location via settings > File manager. . Add network locations then browse for shared folder..
