Xiaomi mi box S Vs Fire stick

by Groningooner

Hi all!

So for some context, I'm a British expat living abroad in the Netherlands. Since I've moved, it's been a pain to try and find the old shows I used to watch in the UK as well as streaming sports/football.

So I'm looking at getting an Android TV box of some description and the two that seem to be most commonly available are the Xiaomi mi box S, and the fire stick.

Is there any advice as to which I should get? They both seem pretty similar but I'm not sure which is better at what I want:

  1. Performs well and doesn't lag/glitch
  2. Supports 4K
  3. Most importantly, can get me Kodi (Or whatever else can get me British TV and football)

Thanks in advance :)

Personally I'd go for Fire TV as Android TV is missing a few apps. There are no Android TV apps for All4, BritBox, UKTV Play and Apple TV+. They all work fine on Fire TV but there's no equivalent Android TV versions.

If you don't intend on watching anything on those service you have more options as there's loads of different Android TV devices on the market.

Android TV benchmarks compared to every Fire TV — 2020 Chromecast, Shield TV, Tivo Stream 4K, and Mi Box:

Better Apps support on the Fire TV - especially for the UK, plus they are more powerful devices for the $$$ paid vs the old S905X chipset based Xiaomi Mi Boxes.

The modern FireTV Sticks / Cube gen 2 have the best Wireless remotes in the business vs anything else. They even control other Infra Red devices.

Downside is a bit of a cluttered / constricted FireOS user interface with some in your face advertising. That interface will be upgraded sometime soon however:
