Chromecast w/ Google TV won't power off TCL Android TV

by churka

I just recently purchased a TCL with Android TV. I set up my Chromecast and CEC works fine as long as powering on and switching input to the chromecast. But when I power off using the Chromecast remote, the TV doesn't turn off. I've dug through all the settings on both devices and can't figure it out.

It worked fine on a TCL TV with Roku.

Any ideas on how to get it to work?

Switch to IR control in the settings. The CEC implementation on the CCGTV is pretty broken for a lot of devices. Hopefully Google will fix it in an upcoming update.

Same issue. I don’t want to wait for Android TV to get updated to Google TV, and there just aren’t enough options on my Android TCL as I had on my Roku TCL.

UPDATE: Apparently you DO have to stand like 3 feet from the TV in order for the IR to pick up. So I got it to work...just not ideally.

Same issue here with a Hisense Roku TV. Normally when I turn off my TV it makes a sound and then does a little animation and then dims off. It takes about 2 secs. With the GTV when I hit the power button I hear the TV make the shutdown sound but then I goes back to the Roku homescreen. My theory is the GTV sends the CEC power down command and the TV starts to react but then the GTV turns off it's HDMI output which causes the TV to abort the shutdown and then go back to the homescreen.

I know this is old post but i found solution for anyone else -- when you set up CC Remote you have to select Roku and not TCL TV under TV list -- everything works Power button and Select Input as well
