Hisense 4K UHD HDR LED Android Smart TV (50H78G) - 2020 OR Sony 49" 4K UHD HDR LED Android Smart TV (XBR49X800H)

by meetneo911

Hi,

I am looking to buy an android TV. Hisense is much cheaper but I have read some horrible reviews of it being very buggy and sluggish when using the apps.

Sony seems much better in build quality and picture quality but it's almost $250 more expensive. Also is this model the latest Sony android tv model?

On these android TVs can I download games from the google play store and play them using a Bluetooth controller. I do understand it won't run high graphic games but I am looking for casual gaming.

Anyone who has purchased either Hisense or Sony Android tv, can you please share your experience or any advice you might have?

Thanks in advance!!

It's funny to come across your post. I have a Hisense Android TV and I have to say it is a horrible, frustrating experience. Laggy isn't even the word for it. Also there is a terrible delay in sound when using a sound bar and/or bluetooth headphones. I unplug this TV 6 or 7 times a week! Finally, after a year, ordered a Sony Android TV just last night and I pick it up today. I ordered the X800H series. Can't wait to check it out!

I have a Hisense 4k UHD led tv. Wish I had purchased something else. It is buggy. Sometimes it stops responding to the remote, and the only way to overcome is to unplug the TV, and then plug it back in. If you leave a streaming app paused for too long it seems like there is a memory leak, and you have to reboot. The support is horrible. I recently had to do an upgrade via USB. The upgrade seems to be only cosmetic changes. The only thing I do like about the TV is the picture quality.

Went from buggy TCL AndroidTV to Bravia about 6 no this ago.

TCL is probably slightly crappier than Hisense, but I'd expect Hisense to be a similar experience to TCL.

The Bravia is comparatively flawless.

I just bought a 55" sony x900h and absolutely love it. It's higher end than you're looking but I'm sure it won't be drastically different.

Android works well. You can indeed play games with a bluetooth controller. There is no noticeable difference to me in ui performance between my sony tv and shield tv.

Sidenote I was able to side load the new Google tv ui onto it and it's awesome. Significantly better than the android tv ui.

EDIT: Thought I'd throw in that I went from a LG OLED to my sony. The lg crapped out and I received terrible customer service.... Honestly, the sony is as good or better I'm most scenarios. Only time it really loses is when the screen is entirely black and there is white text. In that extreme case you see bloom.
