Kodi is a great player and VLC is also best second player.

MX was once good but no longer an option for me.

Emby for library, kodi for files.

VLC is best. Never believe anything else!

Emby or Plex for backend server duties.

Then the Composite Kodi Addon for Plex Client use.

Kodi, use it for live TV, mp3 and mp4 playback.
