Matching refresh rate and screen resolution on Google TV

by Trevigol

Hi,

my new Chromecast with Google Tv is set to 4kp 60.

I have 2 sports apps (NOW TV and DAZN) that works at 1080p 50.

Is Android TV going to get a matching frame rate feature?

I tried the Refresh Rate app on the store, but it doesn't work properly. It offers me only to set resolution to 1080p 60, it doesn't let me choose the resolution I want.

Any workaround?

It's coming in Android TV 11:

Initial support for variable refresh rate (VRR)

EDIT: not sure why I got downvoted, it's in a Google Document in front of me...

Ok VRR isn't what OP was talking about, I did found this in Android 11 new APIs though:

Desired Refresh Rate API :
e.g. 24Hz content at 60Hz without motion judder via seamless refresh rate switching when supported by Panel TV or OTT/STB device chain.

I’m interested in the CCGT but it is a dealbreaker if it doesn’t support refresh rate matching out of the box. I’m guessing it is a software limitation which will hopefully be addressed in a future firmware.

There is NO auto Frame Rate Matching available at all on the new CCGTV dongle - by any means.

It's "Match Content (Dynamic Range)" setting is for auto switching between SDR / HDR / DolbyVision color spaces.

The best device for Apps auto Frame rate matching is the Apple TV 4K - by a wide margin.

2nd best is the recent Amazon Fire TV devices.

coming third are the Nvidia Shields

fourth is the Xiaomi Mi Boxes.

that works at 1080p 50.

Yep for those of us streaming 25/50fps content, we need auto Frame Rate Matching support. 25/50fps output at 60Hz is not nice.

Neither is 24p Netflix / Prime video output at 50Hz. That last one really is horrible.

What is the issue here, specifically with refresh rate? Both the Chromecast and apps run at 60fps.

Resolution of the videos from the 2 sports apps will simply be stretched, right?
