I remapped the Apps button so when I long press it, it loads up the Play Store.

That was the most practical way I found, until I decided it was better to switch back to the default launcher in order not to lose any of the box's functionality, and using Home Launcher for Android TV and button remapper, when I press the Home screen it takes me to the new Google TV launcher and if I long press home it takes me to the default launcher.

This way the Apps button on the remote still works, and the Play Store is easily accessible from there.
