Found a free way to remap Netflix button on chromecast Google tv remote

by redross79

Hi, I know most of you already know that you can use the Button Mapper app to change the behaviour of the pointless Netflix and YouTube buttons on the new chromecast remote. But that is a (relatively) expensive solution at a cost of £3.49.

Today I found a free, Open Source app that does the job just as well (if not better!)

The app is in the Play Store, but not in the Android TV store, so you'll need to side load it using your preferred method (I install on my phone, then use x-plore file manager to copy to the chromecast).

It is a little fiddly to setup using the remote control, but is possible and does work.

I'm using my Netflix button as Play/Pause, which is annoyingly missing from the remote!

I use button mapper on my shield remote and remapped the button to YouTube TV. I didn't pay anything for it.

Button mapper has good enough functionality with the free version. If you only need to map one or two buttons, it's fine.

Button Mapper's good enough for me but the YouTube button is a little finnicky. If I try to remap it, it'll go to the YouTube app first and then whatever I remap it to.

It works for me. Many thanks.

Thank you for this post!

My middle "return" button stopped working on my chromecast remote.

Fortunately I found this thread to reconfigure my remote. Now my "Netflix" button is my "Return" button, my "Youtube" button is my Play/Pause button :D

Note: I had also problems with navigating in the Key Mapper app. My workaround was connecting a USB mouse to my chromecast (I have an USB hub connected to it). With the mouse I could click on all the buttons to navigate properly.

Awesome, thank you!

Isnt play and pause just the little circle button in the middle of the circular navigation buttons?

Either way great find. Thanks for sharing.

I'm huge fan of Button Mapper and I have paid in mobile too to use Bixby button. But it's giving me a hard time configuring in Android TV( Nokia TV) .

I don't know why it's happening with my TV but I'm not seeing Button Mapper under accessibility services to give it permission and without it Button Mapper not starting. Can someone please help me? I enabled android debugging too.

this screen popping everytime if I don't give accessibility like in mobile but nothing is showing under services here

I'm trying to find a way to hit enter after I change the input source via the Chromecast Google tv remote. It let's me change the input in the tv menu but my tv requires that you got it highlighted, you have to hit enter to make it actually change. I was hoping this could help but I'm having trouble with it. Anyone else trying to do anything similar?

Key Mapper Is waaaay better than Button Mapper. The latter has an easier interface but it doesn't recognise some buttons in some remotes. Key Mapper has even the option to bind a button to a virtual keyboard combo so you can 1-click to get some functions that you could have only with a physical keyboard, like for example opening the Netflix streaming data info.

Thank you for this! It worked for me

Menu button work for anyone? Getting a context menu for something like kodi, or more options in a bunch of tv apps is really difficult (can't bookmark on firefox tv browser)

And currently running apps (to switch/terminate)?

I've seen the option and tried to map but they don't operate as expected or do nothing

Hey, this is a great suggestion thanks. I had some real trouble getting button mapper to recognise Smart YouTube TV as the correct button press.

Having sideloaded Keymapper, how did you select items on the list on CCWGTV? Navigating around using the d pad seems to bypass the app list and just go to the buttons around the side like search or the menu categories above. Were you able to use your phone to navigate somehow?

I just found this and thank you so much! It worked for me.

How do I use x-plore file manager to copy the apk/app to the Chromecast?

FarmResident9241

I've done this but the overlay keyboard of the keymapper doesn't work properly when using the search function.

The keyboard shows up but the focus is still on the background so you cannot type. Has anyone noticed this also? Is there a workaround for this?
