Android tv for plex other/cheaper than nvidia shield?

by karenhater12345

I know the shield works great with plex, I use one on my main tv. But I dont need that much for my bedroom tv. All I need is something with good wifi, or a (preferably over 100mbps) ethernet jack, that can pass dolby digital or dts 5.1 to my tv which will then send it over toslink to my old 2004 avr in the bedroom. Also needs to be able to play 4k remuxes, but most of mine top out around 60mbps so yeah. If I *needed* lossless audio sure id get a shield but this avr only supports 5.1 lossy or 2.0pcm

I just am not sure what to do that costs less than a shield.

The new Chromecast is fine for Kodi / Plex, but not beefy enough for in-home game streaming

The more than 100Mbps ethernet would be the issue mybe one of those higer end Chinese boxes will have gigabit ethernet. Otherwise Roku Ultra to me is probably the best Plex experience if you don't need lossless.

Use a Gigabit equipped, Ugoos X3 Cube, and run CoreELEC Kodi on it.

And then use the great Composite Kodi Addon:

That combo will do 4K HDR & HD (Atmos) audio from a Plex server better than any cheap Android device ever will. Auto Refresh/Resolution is seamless with such a setup.

That device even has toslink/SPDIF for direct hookup to an old audio system.

Also suggested is a Plug n Play G20S wireless remote.
