Cant install unknown apps

by throwawayacct4991

my device won’t go into settings cannot enable installing unknown apps like from the browser. For some reason the options are grayed out and not selectable, anyone else had this issue? Anyone know how to fix it?

Unlike the Shield, you need to enable Developer mode first then the option won't be greyed out.

Settings > About > tap the build number until it tells you you're a developer.

I read somewhere that it is greyed out for everyone on the new Google TV

There are a couple of YT vids on how to do it...

You need to have a compatible file manager installed first and then you can enable sideloading for that app.

However, the stock launcher wont' show any apps that are directly ATV compatible. I also wasn't able to get any of the apps I sideloaded to actually run successfully either (well, 1/6 would, but I couldn't navigate to all the elements needed to actually use it).

Easy fire tools is your friend. It can install from your phone and directly onto your ATV box without the apk being on the ATV.

Search for the word file then download solid explorer. U can then turn the ftp function on and use solid explorer to send apks to the device and install them like you used to with es file explorer.
