Has Speaker Groups come back to Android TV?

by scottydunco

I've seen that over recent months, the ability to add Android TV devices into Google Home Speaker Groups has come and gone. This is a deal breaker for me as I really want to get a Philips Android TV! Now the new Chromecast has been released, is running on Android TV and is being marketed as supporting grouping, has anyone noticed if the ability to add other Android TV devices to Google Home Speaker Groups has returned?

Nope. It was there for a few weeks and worked perfectly on my Shield. And, for reasons Google, they took it away and never brought it back. Gotta love Google.

It's dumb. My new Chromecast + Google TV can be added to a Speaker Group, but my Sony Android TV can't. I almost want to just hook up my old Chromecast to my Android TV and see if that will work because who knows when the actual TVs are going to be supported.

Not for me in Australia. Neither Xiaomi mi box s or Vodafone TV boxes can be in groups and have subscribed to the beta for casting.

My new google tv can join groups though.

Not available on my Sony Android TV, though mine is older model. I wouldn't rely on it ever coming to third party devices, they probably can't be bothered supporting that. I imagine there are issues with them being out of sync.

Unless your device is specifically marked as supporting it I'd just get whatever TV you want and then add 50 to the price for the Google TV

No and will never come back, they want you to buy the new Chromecast with Google TV (that can be added to a speaker group). Evil Google.

Maybe there's a way to sideload the Chromecast built in app from the new Chromecast for Google TV???
