The 75" Sony 900H is $900 off, so I got that.

I've been burned by a TCL android TV before... (TCL U55C7006) Pray that you don't get any random Chinese ads, or that pixels are shut off in a dithering pattern to fake a higher contrast.

I just got the 50" version of this TV. It's either defective or too weak to support normal apps on Android TV, or even chromecast. So far, it has been unable to do any of the following without stuttering or delay in video:

  • stream a video from Prime Video
  • stream a movie in Plex from a local server
  • cast a video streamed from the internet smoothly to the built-in chromecast, at any bitrate

Connecting the TV to hard-wired ethernet doesn't help. Using an old second-gen chromecast on the TV instead of the built in hardware works just fine for any of these tasks. No other TV on my network has any of these issues.

Is it possible that this TV is this bad? I'm going to exchange it for a replacement at Best Buy soon to find out.
