Transferring from old Android TV to new one?

by christcentric

I currently have a Sony Android TV from 2015. A couple of months ago it started flickering badly and the repair was assessed to be prohibitively expensive, so I got a new one, another Sony Android TV, a 2020 model this time.

Is there a way for all my apps and data to be transferred over from the old TV to the new TV? Android phones have a new transfer feature on setup - is there something similar for TVs?

Not on setup. Use the same Google ID when you setup and the TV should be "essentially" the same. If you've sideloaded any apps, you'll have to do that again, but any "missing" Google Play Store apps can be reinstalled manually. Unlike a phone, there isn't a lot of "local data" on a TV to worry about.

not aware of such a SONY feature [ also an app to transfer all your settings and content to another SONY TV-set .]

you may then want to " surf thru " android TV setup and pick that option for the use of an android smartphone, to instantly complete the ' configuration of basic options for ATV settings '

then turn to ' Play Store ' and to ' My Apps ' tab, scroll to ' not on device ' [ section ] and add apps you want to the new TV-set too [ chances are you may also have to additionally sign-in for each streaming service and source although, ' google smart-lock ' for passwords is usually quite " happy to give you a hand " with that matter ]

I doubt Sony has any backup/restore option. If am in ur spot, will follow the steps below.

Install Apk Extractor app and extract all the apps and copy to Removable storage.

Then connect the USB drive on new tv and start installing all the apps.

One challenge is that, you have to configure each app (Eg. sign in with account, re-do customizations).
