YouTube "Auto" quality is NOT limited to 720p anymore (at least in my region)

by latinriky78

Due to the pandemic, Google capped YouTube to 720p when using "Auto", but I noticed today that it is not limited to that quality anymore, at least not in my region. Is it working for you in your location?. Share your thoughts.

(x) idk i don't use the official app. Smart Youtube TV picks 4K automatically when available.

My browser picks 720p on pc tho. 1080p was always there for me you just had to manually select it every video..

From 480p to 720p yes. Still not the highest available quality.

I'm getting default 1440 as of .. yesterday, yesterday night?

Weird since I don't seek it or even have a 1440p (or any multiple thereof)

I didn't know it; my default was 1080 cause I don't have 4K TV/Monitor.

I read of these changes, but for me even 4K was still autoselected.... (Germany)

In India it was limited to only mobile devices. On android TV I always had 4k.

Defaulting to 480p here

Such bullshit I pay for YouTube premium

Edit: Just realized this was the Android TV subreddit, 480 was on mobile. I'll check my Shield later
