It's an app issue. Not hardware.
HBO on the GTVCC does 5.1 Netflix/prime/disney does not.
I get 5.1 on netflix and prime on my old LG TVs native apps but they haven't been updated in ages so I don't get auto foreign subs like I would on the gtv.
My Fire stick has 5.1 on every app nearly.
My guess is HBO paid and made sure it works on the G while the other companies are still locked in some sort of contract..
Oddly enough if I cast HBO to either the GTV or the chromecast ultra I also do not get 5.1
MY T.V. does allow passthrough. As my firestick is plugged into it and so was the GTV before I moved it to the old sony receiver.
Yes. Some apps aren’t playing 5.1 though. Hulu in particular.
