4K UI - New Chromecast With Google TV

by [deleted]

Hi Everyone,

I know its just come out in the US but hoping someone can confirm before I buy one when its available in the UK

Does anyone know if the new Chromecast renders the UI in native 4K? I have a shield and know that the NVIDIA shield outputs the UI @ 1080p and upscales?

Can anyone confirm if Netflix UI renders in 4K also... does the same thing on the Shield.

Thanks in Advance.

Shows as 4K for me

The UI (both the android and Netflix) is rendered in 1080p still. Just like the Shield TV.

you can change the output DPI to 4k in the developer options of ALL android tv boxes. If you want tiny icons and text that is.

I’ve managed to set the new google tv ui to 4K on my shield and set the dpi to 640 via adb so that it displays correctly. I had to reboot for the ui to properly scale but It looks good for the most part, text on the app categories column is larger than normal but it’s not a deal breaker especially when as far as I can tell everything else displays correctly. The UI is not 100% smooth though so it may struggle on the new chrome cast.
