Yay more confusing neverending name changes from Google. I mean Alphabet.
This is part of the description:
Over the next few weeks, the Play Movies & TV app on Android mobile devices in the U.S. will update to the new Google TV app. You'll see a new overall look, including a new app icon, logo, and name.
With Google TV, your favorite features aren’t going anywhere. All your previously purchased movies and shows can be found in your Library tab in the new Google TV app, and you’ll still be able to watch your content on the Play Movies & TV app that is available on compatible iOS, streaming, or smart TV devices.
Man I loved Google for so long, but I'm really starting to lose faith in them.
Chromecast with Google TV, Google TV(the app), Google TV(the discontinued), Android TV, Youtube TV, YouTube.
Yeah cause that's not confusing at all.
So google now has 3 "tv" products. Android TV, YouTube TV and now Google TV. Unbelievable.
Will android tv be updated to google tv? Or at least able to support stadia?
Just to clarify, this won't screw with Movies Anywhere right?
Just got an email on it:
The Google Play Movies & TV app on Android mobile devices in the U.S. is now Google TV. We’re bringing all your favorite Play Movies & TV features into the new Google TV app, making it even easier to find and enjoy the entertainment you love in one place.
Here’s what to expect

Check out the Google TV app
New look and feel
The new Google TV app makes it much easier to discover new things to watch with recommendations based on what you love.
Find what to watch across your streaming apps
You’ll see recommended content from your streaming apps organized in one place to help you find what to watch next. Browse through movies and shows picked just for you or browse through topical recommendations. When you see an interesting show or movie, add it to your Watchlist to keep track of your new discoveries.
One stop shop for all your entertainment
Buy or rent new releases and old favorites in the new Google TV app. You can also continue to buy content in the Google Play Store and watch in the Google TV app. No matter where you buy, if you are a Google Play Points member, you’ll continue to earn points on content you purchase.
This thing is infuriating. It is linking my streaming services to it. I can't unlink Disney+ and Netflix.
I don't want to have some Google mandated unified streaming experience. This is a garbage app designed to siphon our streaming show preference data while not even providing a service in return!
Good maybe they'll screw that up too now that they're forcing us to go from the awesome Google play music to the crappy YouTube music where not only are my playlists from Google play music are there but so are my YouTube playlists that say no music available on them and when you try to delete them it wipes out your playlists on YouTube once again Google googled itself
Will this app be available for the iPhone?
Am I the only one seeing that you can rent and buy movies on YouTube TV and that there is a place for them to be stored in your library there? At any rate, an app called Google TV that lets you rent or buy media seems odd giving that they're calling the UI of the new Chromecast the same thing. Here's hoping that my Shield Pros are minimally affected by all of this nonsense. I can definitely do without that terrible Google TV UI.
so basically what Apple TV app is just for Android?
Even leaving aside the defunct Google TV of old this is confusing. Is the redesigned app going to mimic the Google TV UI (really just re-skinned Android TV) on the new Chromecast? Or will it be its own thing? How do Google expect consumers to have faith in products when they are constantly rebranding and/or dropping products?
I already managed to confuse myself between Google TV and Android TV. So I checked Wikipedia and saw:
Google needs to get better at naming stuff.
