by c9hris

Is there any media box that will have compatibility with both HDR formats (Dolby Vision and HDR10+) HDR10+ is not so imported alongside Atmos and DTS:X passthrough?

I want to use one for All (Netflix,Prime) Play Files from USB Drive and Diskdrives

I own a Samsung TV 55" QLED 4K Q70R (2019) and Samsung HW-90R Soundbar

I have found the Nvidia Shield Pro,im not shure ist the only Option?

Why do you need dolby vision when your tv does not support it?

50 usd google tv would do

Go with a nvidea shield.

There's no device out there that does both Dolby Vision and HDR10+, only Dolby Vision and regular HDR10. You have the Nvidia Shield as an option and the upcoming $50 Chromecast with Google TV, that will both do 3 out of your 4 requirements.

Sorry pal, you're kinda out of luck with a box that'll do HDR10+. Most, if not all, the 3rd party boxes have sided with Dolby Vision as their 'advanced' HDR format.

I'm guessing it's because DV supports 12 bit bandwidth (or something, I can't remember specifics) while 10+ only supports 10 bit.

Though we're getting other manufacturers that are selling panels that support 10+ and DV (both TCL and Vizio) so we might be getting more boxes that'll support it eventually...

Only the 2019 Shield will give you HDR DV and HD audio passthru.

BUT it does not support HLG HDR, HDR10+ or Google HDR YouTube / Play Movies. Modern 4K Smart TV’s like Samsung, Panasonic and I believe Philips, possibly some recent HiSense support all those.

For your local content there are some AMLogic chipset devices running CoreELEC Kodi that do HD audio and HLG HDR, HDR10+

My 2017 shield pushes HDR10+ to my 2020 Vizio P Quantum. I'm sure the new shield would as well.

None that supports all of that.

xbox series s might actually be a viable solution for some people. just throwing that out there. it'll have the best long term support and updates if anything.

if you are talking dolby vision as provided by bluray (in a remux format), there is no android device that supports it correctly.

The shield can play back some remuxes, but many others look obviously wrong (which begs the question, are the ones that do not look obviously wrong, just look ok, or are they actually being decoded correctly).

Pretty much the only major media power supporting HDR10+ is Amazon. Which is why the only streaming app that supports HDR10+ is the Prime Video app. But, Amazon being Amazon, I kinda doubt that they'd offer that feature in their app for any device other than their own Fire TV even if that other device manufacturer could/would support it.

The SoC in the new Chromecast with Google TV can support HDR10+, although Google would probably have to choose to enable that feature in their firmware. But they really would have no reason to do that, and advertise the device as having HDR10+, unless Amazon agreed to offer HDR10+ in their Prime Video app for Android TV.

So my guess is that this is as much or more in Amazon's court as in Google's.
