I wonder how the new Chromecast will compare in performance to the Mi Box S, being that they should be around the same price. I can't complain too much about the MiBox S. 4k 60 with HDR turned on isn't bad for $50. It is starting to show it's age still being on android 9/10 though. Thoughts?

It really sucks that they couldn't use (cost and or time constraints) the latest Amlogic chip which can HW decode AV1. It would have been the perfect kickstart for the codec.

Shield TV is still on Android 9 as well. Apparently Android 10 had no real benefits for Android TV so most manufacturers skipped it.

The Mi Box S has the old AMLogic S905X while the dongle will sport the S905X2, which has Dolby Vision support.

I'm looking forward to seeing what this is like. I have a Shield in the living room and a Mi TV stick in my bedroom but the Mi TV stick is just crazy slow and has to reload the homescreen whenever I go back to it, hopefully this will be better!

I can't complain with the first gen Mi Box. They've paid for themselves a couple times over for me. Going on three years now with both of mine still going strong.

Agreed. I see little reason to update. Maybe faster OS updates?

Does this new Chromecast support HEVC like 1080P 60FPS would make a great dongle for my plex content if it did.
