Playback in Kodi on Xiaomi Mi stick

by OutsideAnywhere

I've just bought an Xiaomi Mi stick and installed Kodi on it. I'm trying to stream my movies from my NAS but ever 10 seconds or so it needs to buffer. I've tried to connect through both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz but they both work bad. It's not problem to stream the same mcoies through wifi on my computer. In my living room I have an Nvidia shield at that works great, also through wifi. Is the Mi stick too slow for Kodi and 1080p movies?

If you want Kodi's functionality, but in a more lightweight form then try out Stremio. Honestly, for me it's way better than Kodi since I don't have to deal with any stupid issues anymore. Less of a headache. I wrote about it here.

Problem is your WiFi signal you need to have strong signal 5ghz is better but if you are able to go close to your signal source it will help you

Mi stick is too underpowered for Kodi i would say.

Change the sound quality to medium if the "best" is selected or "worse" if medium is selected. Another thing you could do is to install the 17.6 version. It's the most stable for Mi devices. I use it with remixes from Google Drive.

For streaming through Play store apps it's very good. For Kodi and heavy bit rate videos it's too much for 1GB device. Maybe you can try PLEX.

I installed a new update for the Mi stick yesterday and among other things it had a fix for performance. I tried Kodi after the update and now it actually seems to work. I haven't tried a full movie yet but I will soon.

It's possible. 1 GB ram is too small

If you wanna stream from NAS i would suggest using plex or jellyfin for that

If it's giving you issues on 5 GHz, than that stick is the problem, especially if you have other devices working fine on the same WiFi; proving it's the stick giving you said issues.

My ladies Mi Box 3 runs on 5 GHz without issue; likely a lack of RAM, thermal issue or both?
