After decompiling the Disney+ I found a line that disables surround sound when the manufacturer (in build.prop) is xiaomi.

You could try rooting your box and spoof the manufacturer line: https://www.reddit.com/r/Stadia/comments/e88gzu/did_anyone_root_their_nvidia_shield_tv_so_they/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share
Whaaat? 😲
Being the most popular is not always beneficial apparently...
I just hope on my Ematic Jetstream is not the same, the service will just arrive in my country in november 15th.
Very interesting. I posted about the Mi Box and Disney + a couple days ago. Is there any option to patch the app and side load it?
r/piracy is the correct answer in almost all cases. A perfect "tHiS iS wHy i PiRaTe" post actually.
Could anyone (or the OP) with technical knowledge ask Disney about it? Twitter maybe
Are there more lines like this?
WTF, why a manufacturer ban???
If a specific device has problems with surround, you ban that specific device, not all of them...
I guess using Kodi with the Disney+ addon could work around the problem.
Lol that's not the reason. The real question is why is that coded that way (max channels as 2 for Xaomi)?
It's probably too force 2 channels on Xiaomi TVs
Disney +is not available at your location. why I got this?
This is not such an issue with me because I prefer two channel stereo anyway.
I'm not an android dev but isn't there an Android SDK API call one can use to interrogate the device for the number of sound channels it supports?
Whitelisting surround-capable devices by manufacturer seems really lazy and stupid.
