About "Wake on LAN" on Android TV devices

by latinriky78

Back in 2017, when I got my first Android TV device (original Xiaomi Mi Box or MIBOX3), I made a bug report at Issue Tracker website on 09/21/17 because the device didn't "wake up" by using the "Chromecast Built-in".

On the next day, they replied by closing the report as " Won't Fix (Intended Behavior)" along with this message:

"Thanks for reporting the issue. This feature is not officially supported by us yet and our team is working on it. However, there are few OEM's support from their side. We are not sure whether Xiaomi Mi Box supports or not. We would recommend you to check with Xiaomi Mi Box technical support team on this"

It's been 1080 days, and the "Wake on LAN" feature is still not widely available on ALL Android TV devices, so, what I request to all of you is to go that Issue Tracker report to put more pressure on Google about this so needed feature. Remember, the more people reply, the merrier.

Thanks in advance.

Google will most likely never fix this. Install Wakelock . This will fix your problem

Works on my Sony and sound bar.

Well it could be implemented half-assed like my Hisense H8G, it works fine until my WiFi either disconnects or turns itself off while display is off. And the TV has Wake on Cast, Wake on LAN, and Wake on Wireless Network all enabled.

Works fine on LAN but it's limited to 100 megabit and my internet is gigabit, before anyone says 100 Mbps is fast enough it's not as I routinely stream files which are 60+ GB and buffer on LAN but not wireless since wireless connects at 866 Mb which gives real world 290 Mbps.

EDIT: Re-reading your post again - it's a bug in device - Resume from Sleep - Wake UP - and also Google Chromecasting code itself.

It's not WOL which is a function to do with remotely Waking up a File Server, via magic packets across a network.

There a definitely bugs in AMLogic chipset devices bootloaders though that are related to it which the Linux CoreELEC guys have fixed on - non Android TV devices:
