I just tried this on my shield with plex and its a million times better than Hue stream. Cost $5 to unlock the sync with the shield but it is SUPER fast syncing with the video with the shield. I had to turn the intensity to medium because I felt like it was going to fast and getting to seem like random flickers, but set to medium is syncs up almost perfectly. This is really awesome, im finally feeling like my investment in my Hue Play lights are worth it.
I've yet to test compared to the other Hue app that does this on Android TV (that has noticeable Sync delay), but this is a very good 3rd party Hue app on phones so thought I'd get the word out here.
So does it run in the background and work similar to how the sync box would?
I've got an Android TV (Pie) and about 4-5 months ago I discovered the Screen sync feauture (costs about 5 euro) in the Hue Essentials app, which enabled me enjoy the same immersive experience similar to the Hue Sync box, without buying the +- 250 euro device instead. I use it watching Youtube but Plex in particular.
I didn't have any expectations and was just curious, but it turned out to be amazingly accurate. Haven't experience delays. Obviously all lights shut off when watching netflix, prime, and any other content protected app. And in my case it doesn't work when watching in 4K.
Quite recently, after an update of the Hue essentials app, the functionality stop working when watching videos on Plex. Does anyone else experience similar issues? When opening Hue essentials, pick your entertainment setup, there's this notification 'under development', that I can't recall in earlier versions. Still works totally fine on Youtube btw, which is to me rather worrysome. Could it indicate that Plex stops supporting this integration in the future?
Wait ... so I can download this app on my android tv and use it to change my hue lights color automatically?
