i only want my Shield to be used for Kodi for now, don't want the kids to access the games or whatnot.
if i want to play games, then maybe it will ask for a password. otherwise, it's just Kodi.
i tried "Launch on Boot" and it almost worked. i was still able to Exit Kodi easily by Exit on the menu or pressing Home button.

Keep the kids away from your shield.
With the stock remote, you wouldn't be able to. If you get a flirc and configure a third party remote, you could not configure the home button.
Then from there, custom edit your Kodi build to not have an exit option and run in kiosk mode... And use the boot on launch thing you were using.
And even then, still not completely closed off
Use restricted profile mode and have Kodi as the only app allowed.
