Looking for an Android TV with a DVB-S2

by Ne_oL

Hello there. I have been looking to buy an Android TV that will replace my DVB-S2 receiver as well as my aging Chromecast. I looked really hard but i could only find a few unknown brands. And looking at this sub, i noticed that those unknown brands suffer from grainy screens or mediocre quantities. I appreciate any advice, and personal experience is truly appreciated.

There is one Android TV device released in Portugal, it is called "WeTek Air", it has interchangeable tuners, DVB-S2 included, but looks like it didn't have success, even their website is down, you can take a look at the specs here: WeTek Air

You can take a look at other ATV devices in the aforementioned website: Android TV Guide

Dinobot u5 mini 4k is android tv and dvb S2 . In fact it is dual boot android tv + enigma 2. The downside is that there is very little data and support from the OEM. The enigma part is well documented though.

Humax announced one back in July but I’ve no idea when it’s available https://biz.humaxdigital.com/

Are you married to having it all in one device? You may be better off to go for several discreet devices.

All I can say is good luck finding an all in one perfect solution... although VBOX may have something available:

Be careful, because I doubt the VBOX's have Netflix or even Prime Video. DRM / HDCP for paid for copy protected video streaming services might be an issue as well.

Devices need Netflix specific approval otherwise you be interacting with a difficult Air Mouse and App and be limited to 540p Max Netflix resolution.

If you want to do it properly and also be able to send TV streams all over the house & record to HDD Storage, you need to use a DVB-S2 Sat. IP Tuner and run something like a TvHeadend server externally on your home network feeding into the Android TV device of your choosing:

https://www.pulsat.com/products/Telestar-Digibit-R1-Sat-to-IP-Quad-Input-Home-Server-with-DLNA.html

A cheap AMLogic chipset device running CoreELEC (or RPi / LibreELEC) Kodi can be used for TvHeadend:

https://discourse.coreelec.org/t/sat-ip-settings-for-digibit-r1-and-tvheadend/5490

The key here with anything to do with DVB is - SUPPORT - and you really need a bunch of knowledgable users on a forum to get it all working correctly.
