Dolbyvision and HDR

by Stelletti

So I just bought a LG OLED CX and bought a Nvidia Shield Pro to go with it. I currently have the Shield Running thourgh my AVR which does 4k passthrough. When I first hooked up the TV I did test the WebOS and when I played content that was DV or HDR the LG would have a little popup saying as such. Now when I use the Nvidia Shield the DV and HDR popups on the TV do not show. The picture still looks amazing though. How do I know if the Shield is truly sending that?

Also other question. Do you guys run the Shield through your AVR or go directly to TV and then use eARC?

I think there might be a setting in your AVR. I have the shield pro going through my AVR to an LG C9. And anything I play on the shield that has HDR or Dolby Vision, I get the notification in the upper right of the screen.

I do use ARC, but through the AVR.

Your AVR has to support HDR10 and DV not just 4K passthrough.

I have an AVR that supports HDR10 only but my TV supports both. I can only use HDR10.

Connect the shield directly to my TV and the DV and HDR both work.

If AVR supports eARC and you want HD audio then hookup...

Shield > LG CX <<- eARC -->> AVR.

Otherwise your AVR must support 4K@60Hz HDR & also DolbyVision - Video - passthrough and in that case it's...

Shield > AVR <<- ARC (or EARC) -->> LG CX

You should tell us exactly what Brand and Model AVR you have and then some users will be able to provide more help !
