What does enabling resolution switching on Android TV do if your TV runs on Android TV. I have a 4K Sony tv which runs on Android TV and I don’t know whether to enable resolution switching or keep it off. I get that if you are using an external box like shield you can enable it or disable it to allow the tv or shield to handle upscaling but what does it do if Android TV is built in to the TV. Should I just ignore it and leave it off?
If you enable it, a 1080p file will not be upscaled to 4k and will be displayed at 1080p resolution. If disabled it will be upscaled to 4k. As you said it's mainly for use with external device, for example on a shield if you want your tv to upscale instead of the shield you would enable it, if you prefer the shield to upscale then disable it.
