Philips Ambilight TV - iPlayer app error

by [deleted]

Hi. Sorry if this has been posted before. I’ve got a fairly new Philips 50PUS8204 ambilight TV and I get an error message with the BBC iPlayer app every time I try to watch a programme. It says There is a Problem Loading This Programme. I have to do a full power-off and restart. The app is baked into the OS so I can’t delete it and reinstall. Any ideas?

Just a quick tip. Instead of starting standalone BBC app start Freeview app - it will open a menu on right hand side of the screen with all apps like BBC, Itv etc. From there you can start any of them without errors.

I have the 65 inch version of this and get the same, (also have last year's model and never get this), i found a tip on a previous thread and it always works, but is a hassle. Long press the app and force close then clear the cache, then pull the power cord to restart the tv iPlayer should work after this.

I'm sure someone will say delete the app and redownload, don't do this, the app is installed by Philips and isn't in the play store so if you delete you need to reset the TV to get it back.

If anyone knows of a way to fix this is be very interested as I have to do this about once a week currently.

Had same issue. Spoke to iPlayer recently. They have been on touch with Phillips who have updated the software, at least for the 65OLED934. Think others will follow soon. See messages on AVFORUMS. It tries to get credentials from your antenna to check you are in the UK

A random question... Are you in UK?

Unbelievable, but I found a solution after much googling.

Seems to apply if you are with internet provider hyperoptic.

Settings > wireless and networks > wired or WiFi > network config > static IP

I didn't need to restart the TV, it works instantly. No idea why it works, but it does. Hopefully this might help someone else struggling as I have been for the last couple of hours!
