Freeview play apps not working

by alijam100

Hi, I just bought an Android TV and have been having some issues. One of the main ones is that all the freeviewPlay apps (iPlayer, itv, all4 etc) won't open and give me an error: FVP-300. I've done some looking and people are saying that an Ariel plugged in is needed. This seems absolutely obsurd as every other service doesn't need this. If I had an LG smart TV I wouldn't have to do this (I've just replaced my LG one). My main issue is I don't actually own an Ariel cable and really don't want to buy one if I can help it. Also the fact I don't pay for Tv license (as I never use BBC services - only opened the app to test if it was working). Does anyone know any other workarounds or whether it's a different issue?

Separately I've also been having issues just casting All4 - it will just pause itself before adverts and not do anything until I uncast and recast. Could this be caused by the freeviewPlay issue? Thanks in advance! Getting really frustrated with this - on the verge of returning it

EDIT: I didn't originally try this as some other forum posts said it didn't make a difference but I have now done a factory reset and it seems to have resolved the issues for now . The all4 app is working without connecting an Ariel. I have no idea why it wasnt working before. Only did a brief test before work this morning so it may be short lived. We'll see... Thanks for the replies and help!

As far as I am aware, if you are accessing the services via Freeview play, you need an aerial to set it up, but if you install the standalone apps, you just sign in with an account you create via their sites. Whilst you are at it, I would disable the iPlayer app, or at least hide its shortcut, since the BBC log IP addresses to catch out TV License dodgers (not saying you are a dodger -
I don't have one since I don't use iPlayer nor do I access live broadcasts through the other catch up services) and I doubt they care whether you open to test or open it to watch. As for casting, it should be bypassing the app altogether when you cast, so I doubt the issues are relate

Hey don't know if you're still having issues but I was and found some info on another forum that might help. Have you tired changing your network settings to use static ip not dhcp. I'm not sure why but it worked for me and a few others on the forum. Might be worth a try https://www.avforums.com/threads/resolved-freeview-apps-not-working.2265827/
