2nd Gen Nvidia Shield Remote eats batteries

by elister

I own two 2nd gen nVidia Shield devices and I swear the batteries in the remote last about 3 weeks before I start getting "low battery" notifications.

My wife likes fake tea candles, cheap and flicker just like normal candles and use the same CR2032 button battery the shield remote uses. When she buys new batteries, they come in a box of 100, but are basically Amazon branded batteries.

Should I splurge $6-10 for name brand CR batteries? Or cut my loses and get some $15 replacement remote that uses cheap AAAs that I know will last for months?

Mine was the same. I turned off always listening and that helped. I now use a harmony remote and that remote sits in the drawer.

Interesting. I picked some up from the Dollar Tree and they worked for more than a year.

Just buy the new Shield remote. I've got 2 of them, one for my 2019 Shield Pro and I bought one for my 2017 as well. They're backlit, control TV volume, feel better in the hand, and the batteries last for months.

If you want to try the name brand cr2032s, Amazon actually sells Energizer branded ones fairly cheap: https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B0042A9UXC/

I have not used the second gen Shield remote, but I have had bad experiences with off brand coin batteries in the past. I had some Sunbeam batteries from the dollar store that gave wildly inconsistent battery level readings and would die quickly in my fitness tracker. I replaced them with those Energizers, and didn't have that problem again.
