Getting TV to play content from YouTubeTV

by BigShotProducer

I have a Sony BRAVIA X850E w/built-in assistant. I can control on/off, pause, volume +/-. I can ask via one of our minis/hubs to play X from Netflix on THE TV and it works, HBO works as well. But, if I ask to watch BBC from Youtube TV on THE TV, it will say "Sure, playing BBC from YouTube TV on THE TV....sorry something went wrong. Give it another Try." If I just say "Watch BBC on THE TV", I get the same response. Sometimes it will say the show I want is available from several sources and ask which one I like, but if I choose YTTV -- "Sure, playing X from YouTube TV on THE TV....sorry something went wrong. Give it another Try." This USED to work -- I could just say the channel or the program and voila -- but over the past few weeks -- no dice. Anyone have a solution?

What happens if you say “Launch Youtube TV”, “Launch Youtube TV on the TV”.

Yeah, this is when I learned that the Google Assistant and Google Home capabilities of a Sony TV running Android TV with "Chromecast built-in" is not the same, and in many ways vastly inferior, to a $30 Chromecast dongle, which handles these sorts of commands much better. Just sucks that I'd have to get one of those and take up an HDMI port just to bridge a gap that should never have been there in the first place.

I ended up surrendering and just use an AppleTV now instead, with the Siri remote, iPhone and Apple Watch, it's a better fit for my overall UX.

Today I unlinked my TV from Google home. Cleared data from Chromecast built in, Google Assistant and YTTV on the television. Rebooted the TV and added the TV back to my home and it works again. "Play BBC from YTTV on the TV" and it did. It even does it when the TV is off... So... Who knows.
