Is AndroidTV good for video game streaming?

by trab601

I am interested in buying an android TV device specifically for video game streaming. I’d like to use PS4 remote play, Project Xcloud, moonlight and steam link.

Is androidTV a good platform for this? If so, what should I be looking for? Any model or spec that I should be aiming for? Are the apps available in the play store or do I need to sideload the APKs. I have tried doing this on the FireTV Stick but have been unhappy with the results (not everything works, much works poorly).

I am asking from the perspective of familiarity of Android but no experience with Android TV

Check out Nvidia Shield TV. Comes with GeForce GameStream for streaming PC games. Can stream at 4k if your network allows it.

I switched to MiBox S from Steam Link (hardware) and can play anything very well with Moonlight or Steam Link app. So it's all good. There's only 2 frame latency (20ms) and 90% of that is TV's own latency, which you would have with a plugged console anyway. You need to go wired (ethernet) for sure.

Only thing with Android is it's picky about wireless gamepads, just check that before you dive in.
