Best way to browse Google photos from the TV?

by sonoletre

I'm new to Android TV and I'm trying to walk my first baby steps on the platform.

Everything's okay so far, except that I can't find a practical way to browse my photos and albums from the TV.

I know that I can cast, and asking "show me my pictures" more or less works, because some of my pictures land on the screen.

What I miss is the ability to browse my albums and choose with the remote. I've seen that there's no official Google app, but many 3rd party apps.

I'm ok with buying one, but then it will have all my data and infos.. I could really use a suggestion from someone that's already solved this.

Using your voice of course, the Google Assistant works better now using several commands, for example:

If you already have some people tagged with its name you can say:

- Show pictures of [person name]

You can ask the assistant to display objects, places and animals like:

- Show pictures of the beach

- Show pictures of animals

- Show pictures of food

- Show birthday pictures

If you have a pet and you already tagged the pictures with its own name or created an album with its name you can also invoke its pictures:

- Show pictures of [pet name]

You can ask to show pictures of an specific date or season of the year:

Note: If you don't have pictures of an specific date, the assistant will display photos from the web on your phone but it will say it still can't display pictures of the web in you TV.

- Show pictures of january last year

- Show pictures of today

- Show pictures of last week

- Show pictures of this month

- Show pictures of december 31st 2019

Individual album names still cannot be invoked like this:

- Show "my wedding" album

But you can ask to show the photos from that album like this:

- Show pictures of my wedding

I recommend using the remote control to invoke this commands instead of the Google Home app.

I use this primarily for the screensaver (which is awesome), but it sounds perfect for what you are asking!
