Hi all!
I'm having a bit of a weird issue with my Philips Android TV. Basically what's happening is that the default launcher (android tv launcher) keeps crashing (or at least that's what it looks like to me).
I believe this is related to Google's Movie & TV app as I'm able to interact with all other channels in the homepage (add/remove) but everytime I click on the movie&tv channel the laucher crashes every single time.
Another thing is that for the other channels (youtube mainly), as I've just mentioned I can add/remove them, but they simply do not refresh with new recommendations or update my subscriptions. They have been showing the same results for about a month now.
Couple of things I've already tried:
- Cleared data on both Android TV Home and movie & tv apps. No change.
- I've already wiped all and re-installed the TV (factory reset), but the behaviour stays the same and my channels in the launcher itself don't refresh or reload and stay the same as they were before the wipe.
- Tried disabling the movies & tv app, and despite it desapearing from my app drawer (OK!), the channel still shows on the home screen (NOK!)
- Connected to the TV's terminal using ADB over wifi and removed the movie & tv app. Although the app is removed, the channel still shows on my home screen and if I try to remove it the launcher crashes (same as before), but if I try to open it says the app is not found (guess that is expected!)
- After removing the movie & tv app, since the issue was still present I went on and removed the android tv home app and reinstalled it via ADB. Lo and behold, I'm presented with the exact same home screen as before with the movies & tv channel still present. Even if I clear the data for the app.
This is driving me mad I can't seem to find a way to resolve this.
Anyone had this same issue before? I googled for people with the same issue but all I could find were people that resolved their problem with #1, #4 or a mix of both.
The only reason why I haven't put a screwdriver through the screen yet is because my wife and my daughters are the main users of the TV and I wouldn't even dare to interrup their netflix binge for any reason. This is starting to drive me mad.
Thanks in advance for any help or thoughts you can spare.
Cheers.
(PS: while I sit here writing this post down, the home screen has crashed at least a dozen times)
When I had the Mi Box S, everytime I turned the device ON the launcher crashed, since there was nothing I could do about it to fix it, the only solution was to report the issue to their developers but I'm not sure if they already fixed it in the recent update of the app because in my current device (Ematic Jetstream) I haven't seen it again. My recommendation would be to turn ON "developer options", then search for an option to show the background ANRs, so everytime it crashes, select "send feedback", type any description in the form and hit send, the more you send the merrier.
That's normal and it becomes worst if you have playback history turned OFF, in my case, I always exit YouTube with the "back" button on the remote control, after two or three seconds I see the channel refreshes, some new stuff appears while other remains, but it doesn't change too much throughout the week.
