So To Go Wired Or Wi-Fi? Bravia Android TV

by aboyinthebox

I have the KDL550C Bravia Android TV (pretty old! I know !) and got AT&T Fiber 1 gig internet ... now everyone keeps saying that go wired with your smart tv for better performance but in my case, I get hardly 100mbps download. What's the deal with that.. haven't tried Wifi but I am sure it will be better than this.. if this crapy network adapter on the Bravia is limiting the Wifi Speed then what's the point of going wired over wifi?

If you aren't streaming any local 4K UHD material (I.e. 4K Blu-ray full rips) than the wired 100Mbps (which is sounds like your TV has) will do just fine.

In theory it should buffer less and load quicker because wired will have better latency and no WiFi interference.

For reference a 4K Netflix stream will take up at most 25Mbps of the 100Mbps bandwidth available by the 10/100 Ethernet port on the TV.

Should these companies stop "cheaping out" and put gigabit adapters on their TV's, sure, but they won't do it for the fringe users like me. So, I just connect a Shield TV to my TV and use the TV as a "dumb" TV.

If it does 5Ghz, I wouldn't bother with a cable. It will likely be faster than the 100 Mbps cable actually.

I have a Sony that is 2 years old. I have it wired mainly to make sure there is plenty wireless spectrum for all the wireless devices and so I don't have to worry about 6he wifi dropping out or getting interference.

You have Gig max internet coming in the house. What is the actual speed when computer is connected straight to modem? What is the speed you are getting from your router? Is your router outputting 1GB to the every ethernet port?

I’m wireless in my Bravia and stream 4K HDR torrents (not remuxes though) easily. Wireless is fine.
