TCL TV Not Working when Pressing Home Button

by RussianInRecovery

Hi,

When I press Home on my TCL remote it just takes me to a black screen - previously it would take me to a place where I could select apps and shows etc. Other functionalities of the TV still work. For example if I insert a USB stick I'm still able to browse the files in that and play it. Also my TCL remote has a Netflix button - and if I press that I can still play netflix - there's also some other various functionality that works that I won't get into - but the Hom ebutton doesn't.

I was thinking perhaps there was a way to reset the TV - I don't have the user manual as it isn't my house and was installed by the landlord - I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions to fix this issue?

Thanks!

The TCL Android TVs (2019) got an update yesterday. It may be working on the update. Try to check and see if it shows as progress.

Have you unplugged it from power, then plugged it back in? TCL TVs by default do not power all the way off so at times a full reboot could be needed. They are just in standby. I have had to do this at times on TVs in general.

Have you recently tried messing with the 'service menu' ?

If not :

From Netflix screen :

  • Press the menu button on the remote
  • go to picture
  • go to advanced
  • go to contrast
  • (without pressing ok) type 6425 on the remote
  • RESET ALL
  • RESET SHOP
  • Restart the TV and enter you data to personalize it again

I just got a tcl android tv about 10 days ago. My tv also did this.. I restarted and it’s fine now. Hoping this not going to be something that happens often.

I fixed mine without resetting by disabling "Quick Start. Settings - More Settings - Device Preferences - Quick start - disable. Still annoying. : /

I’ve tried the unplugging power trick, I tried holding down the power button for 60 seconds, tried switching between inputs several times, yet I’m still getting “no signal could be found.” Internet in the room is perfect and it’s odd that it never goes to that Home Screen. When I perform the hard reboot (unplugging) it will show the TCL sign then the AndroidTV logo, but shortly after that the screen will go black then it will go to “no signal.”

Anyone have a different trick for this?

Just had this error and put me on that black screen that I was unable to get out of. Taking the socket out and putting it back in and turning it on solved the problem. The error turns out to be coming from my router that was having internal connection issue with the TV. Once that was sorted, it was working as normal.

Have been having this issue & its becoming a issue almost daily!

We will never buy this brand ever again! So temperamental & seems to NOT work more often than work lately!

so what is the problem with this, is it the remote or is it the tv itself?
