I have a Mi Box and downloaded the IP Vanish App. The VPN has connected succesfully but outside of the app my IP is my regualr IP. The same happens in KODI. Is there something I'm missing?

One of two things is happening.
When you leave IP vanish, the app is disconnecting and returning to the origins IP connection.
IP Vanish is not set up properly. Check settings, connections, split tunneling. Look to see what apps are checked to bypass the VPN.
It maybe something mi box has installed.
IP Vanish does not have that many options to adjust. I'd install the app and reinstall it.
I used ip vanish and my speeds were atrocious.
Express works far better for me
As for your question, your ip doesn't change, it connect you via their ip.
