Netflix no longer certified

by jeffvaes

Since last Sunday I'm unable to start Netflix on my Android TV since 'It's suddenly no longer certified' according to Netflix.

I have a Philips 2K18 TV running on Nougat and all of a sudden (Since last Sunday) when launching Netflix I'm getting a pop-up message telling ' This version of Netflix is not compatible with your device (-13)' while it has always worked until that day.

I've tried about every trick in the book to resolve this but haven't succeeded in it, Netflix just tells me that it's due to an Uncertified model that this occurs, and they don't have a solution for it other than writing a mail to the manufacturer.

Has anyone else stumbled upon this problem and have a possible fix for it?

Wow. This is some next level androidtv BS! Didn't know certified devices could also be removed just like that.

Have u tried - https://help.netflix.com/en/node/57688 . Mine was same previously. But bear in mind, the UI is simple and not comprehensive as normal. As long I can watch the movie in HD that is good enough 😃 I am using Philip TV as well and having same issue. But not bcos of the certification. It has been way before since I purchased that TV. Quite disappointed hard earned money buying smart TV expecting to work like others but somehow very restricted due to its OS. My philips TV 43PFT5853

Welcome to capitalist reality. Your "smart TV" begins to get dumber the moment it rolls off the assembly line. Planned obsolescence is a prime driver of the corporate money train and this is one of its latest forms.

Looking online, it seems like your TV has had several Oreo updates since any Nougat version. I can't tell you if it will work after updating your TV, but that would be the first thing I would try since you are many updates behind current.

Sorry fo you, but only Philips can resolve this DRM isue. My personal advice is to stay away from Philips. Very poor quality TV. Spend a little more and buy a Sony or Samsung. Those TV are on another level of respect for customers....

u/rx93_00 Yup, This downloads the "netflix-android-tv-7-3-0-build-3520.apk" which goes by com.netflix.mediaclient. After installation, it needed to be updated to be able to launch and then immediately showed the exact same error.

Is your TV up to date?

Are you up to date?

Hm… I'mma have to try this out on my Sony (Android 7.1).

That said, the whole telly is so slow, I've ended up using my Apple TV instead for smart TV purposes.

The TV is old and the software isn't likely to be updated anymore. Just buy a separate set top box and you'll be good. The Tivo Stream is only $50 right now with free shipping, it's a decent cheap AndroidTV device and is most likely way faster than your TV's software anyway.

Just get a fire stick. Relying on TV manufacturers to keep certified is crazy.

No advice, but this is why I really do not like smart TVs. I would rather a streaming box I can update and take to a new TV.
