Put Android TV OS On raspberry pi 4

by BlockArchitech

I've looked at many tutorials - lots of them do not work or just download a launcher from the play store and lose lots of functionality (like Google cast support). Has anyone had success putting Android TV on the pi 4?

Turns out you can't. Guess I'll just save up $60 for a mi box s.

Yeah as awesome as ompc/Kodi/Pi's are, I still find even a cheap AndroidTV device like the mibox or Jetstream are better suited for a media device. At a minimum with the headaches of jumping through DRM hoops. And you can still run Kodi and everything else on it.

Of course if you want it all, just go with the Shield TV. And I think that the new Google device that was leaked the other day will be a great replacement for those cheap devices and (just my opinion) will probably cost less than $100.

Googlecast support is only possible on legit Google Certified Android TV devices period.

You cannot fake those Google keys.
There is a whole army of Uncertified, AMLogic chipset devices that have Android TV ROM’s available for them found over on the Freaktab website if you are the DIY type.

Plus they are cheaper and more powerful these days vs a RPi4

I could be wrong but I've heard this is mostly a waste of time because there is so many issues. There are some awesome RPi4 projects out there like RetroPie and P-hole, I don't think AndroidTV is one of them though.

You won't regret the mibox. It's not perfect but is much better than a firestick and cheaper than a shield, which is an awesome device, but if cost is a factor, the mibox does the job very well.

Yeah, I've got 5 year old and a 2 year old. So even though I'm working from home until who knows when, I still don't have the free time.

Nope, not ever.

No dice on a PC either.
