Well there are different file servers available. The new Kid on the block is the free Jellyfin if you want to keep a central home database. There is a Kodi Addon for that.
Not tried it myself because I use NFS file sharing into various Kodi boxes. Kodi just seems to cover everything and gets better the more tweaking you do with it.
There is a simpler Kodi fork called MrMC, not sure if it’s available for FireTV’s.
