Can't toggle auto switch to best resolution

by Gavaldria

Hi all,

I've recently buy this android box : https://www.amazon.fr/gp/product/B07GP2N7LC/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_image_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

This model is amazing compared to multiple other that i'v tried in the past. I just have a little issue. My TV supports 4k60hz resolution. I can set this resolution manually in the screen settings but when I shutdown the the and power it again it automatically switch to 1080p60hz. Which is pretty annoying as I need to manually change the video output quality everyday. The settings to auto switch to best resolution is greyed out. Does anyone have any idea how can I enable it ? Or how can I permanatly fix the display mode to 4k60hz ?

Sadly you're probably not going to find a lot of help around here, this device you purchased is not an Official Android TV device and most of us have no idea what's going on with these boxes or why they don't act right when they do. Honestly most of us don't have a clue why Official Android TV Boxes act dumb sometimes.

Try to change your TV to the newest HDMI mode for it. My TV was on auto select and was going to 1.4 for some reason, which my Mi box was putting at low res.

Does the auto switch option remained greyed out even when it is sitting at 1080p? I'm going to take a wild guess that the intent for it to fall back to 1080p is to keep performance in check as running UI tasks at 4k all the time is intensive. Many official Android TV devices do this and applications like Kodi will do this where the UI is rendered 1080p or otherwise and underlying video playback is rendered at native or upscaled res. They may just be doing this encompassing the entire display and just changing res as needed for video playback.

However if the auto switch option is greyed out on 1080p I wouldn't know at that point. Maybe something how the TV is identifying itself to the box?

Q. Is the TV switched ON - before the Android media player is Powered Up. ?

The reason is the media player has to do a HDMI EDID handshake with the TV to register Resolution and Hz capabilities.

Usually Hotplug routines in Media Player Firmware does such handshaking whenever there is power on the HDMI cable. But buggy implementationS of Hotplug may not be doing that properly.

HDMI cable needs to support the resolution you're putting out
