Disney+ Unable to Connect

by fredrogers1234

( Solved ) I have an older Nvidia Shield and I have been loving Disney+. I signed up with Verizon’s free year offer.

But for the last three days I have been getting an error message that is preventing me from watching anything.

After the initial Disney logo I get the main interface icons on the left, but on the right where it should display shows I get an all text message saying “Unable to connect to Disney+ There seems to be an issue connecting to the Disney+ service. Please try again later if the issue persists.”

I have cleared the cache, deleted the data, uninstalled and re-installed the App, rebooted my Nvidia shield, router and TV. I even tried Disney+ support chat and they had me go though all of those steps as well and they finally blamed it on my ISP. The weird thing is it works on my phone over WiFi so I doubt that is it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I had a similar issue with the ESPN app before, ironically owned by Disney. It was only an issue on Android TV, not Roku or my Android phones/tablets. Ended up restarting the modem and router fixed it (even though everything else was working fine).

I see you rebooted your router, if you have a separate modem try restarting that as well. Typically I reset the modem and router together.

This may have nothing to do with your issue, but I have run into similar issues with the ESPN app (owned by Disney) and the DAZN app, and it was because of my DNS settings.

I had changed my DNS settings to use with DNS.WATCH or Quad9 DNS servers and I couldn't connect to anything with those 2 apps, but other apos worked fine. I changed it to use OpenDNS and they both started working. I also run PiHole on a Raspberry Pi (my own DNS server and where I set the DNS services mentioned before). A few times it has unplugged and I couldn't connect to certain apps that didn't have the IP addresses cached.

If you haven't changed any DNS settings, this probably isn't your issue. But thought I would mention it because when it is an issue, it isn't the most obvious.

You people rock! I would not have guessed there were different DNS/IP address for the phone and android tv endpoints for Disney+.

I rebooted my router and modem and it is working!

Thank you!
