Best Android Retro Gaming Controller

by jadegamesuk

I've purchased a Xiaomi Mi box and am impatiently awaiting for its arrival. I've seen that RetroArch is fully compatible with Android TV. I'd love to play some 16 bit classics on my big TV.

I think I'll need a gamepad for this though. I know Xiaomi make a gamepad. I don't have a ps4 controller, I think they work though.

Does anyone have any experience with gamepads?

EDIT: Thanks everyone. I've decided to buy the 8bitdo SN30 Pro+ from Amazon.

  • Amazing reviews
  • USB-C charger
  • Replaceable charger (can use AA batteries)
  • PlayStation like feel
  • Could potentially graduate to 5th/6th gen games with the same controller

I use a Bluetooth xbox one controller, it works pretty good.

Are there any controllers that charges with USB-C? I would prefer to have all my Android devices (except my Google home mini, thanks Google) to charge with USB-C.

I really like the GameSir controllers because they support connectivity via Bluetooth or a 2.4 gigahertz dongle or direct wired connection and they have stick and button layouts arranged like Xbox or PlayStation available.

To the point about charging, get some Volta/NetDot/Digital Ant magnetic adapters and tips (10th generation if looking at NetDot), and then you can use a USB-C or a microUSB cable with a magnetic adapter to charge any of your devices. The reason this works so well is most devices outside of phones, tablets, and laptops that may only speak power delivery use 5 volts at .5/1/2/3 Amp. Most of the time even if they do support power delivery they have a fallback to 5v for a slow charge and the physical interface doesn't matter as much as long as the 5v gets to the right pins in the device and these magnetic tips make the shape of the connector a moot point.

If you already have a PS4 controller or a recent XB1 controller, those will work great. Otherwise, look into 8bitdo's controllers.
