Help! Casting from PC to TCL Android TV

by carparfc

Hi, I've recently adquired a TCL Android tv, and my main idea was for it to use it as a remote device for streaming media on my PC, as I'd like to use it as a wireless screen. I've tried using Chrome, but it's terribly laggy, Windows does not recognise it, and VLC fails at casting the desktop. Only way I've found a competent way to stream is by using the Steam Link app, but I was keen on using a different method to make it work. I'd appreciate any alternatives or guides to make the other methods work.

Download airscreen on it.

There's a bit of output delay no matter what app you use. Airscreen has better quality tho. Chrome is plain shit.

TLDR; Miracast and Chromecast are oft-confused, but diff formats. Win10 'connect to wireless display' is Miracast, diff from Android's preferred Chromecast. Idk what VLC, Steam Link, etc use

Anyway my android TV does not autorun Miracast- I have to start an app called 'Share Screen' on the TV and then attempt cast from PC for it to work. (in my case it doesn't work very well either but YMMV) GL

its laggy if you cast your chrome tab because then your pc has to encode the tab. there are some extensions allow direct cast but I find most of them not work well. If you have android phones, I suggest cast from there. I am using Amaze Browser. Open any web page containing video in it and it will find the video link and cast it to TV. VLC cast does not always work in my case. If you want to play media from your PC on TV. use Kodi and SMB share to do it. Or maybe Jellyfin + Kodi
