Is the 2019 Shield TV worth it?

by uniken18

I already have a Mibox S and while it's working fine, I noticed that some apps are laggy (ziontv, iptv smarters, sometimes netflix) but a simple reboot fixes it. Chromecast also stopped working but I don't really use it anyway. And then there's the 5.1 sound issue. I've heard great things about the original Shield tv but I'm not sure about the 2019 version since it's pretty new, but the upscaling feature looks pretty cool and it seems to have a fast processor too

Absolutely yes, I own both the 2015 and 2019 shield pro. I use them both everyday. The 2015 still runs as smooth as the day I got it 4 years ago. Even though they’re on the pricey side, I have never regretted buying either of them.

Mibox S should have a update getting released soon, see if it helps. They have a very active Beta testing on, and have released 3 quick beta releases. Chromecast is easy fix, clear the cache and data of it and restart the box. It should be fixed now.

I'm personally waiting to see if there's an announcement soon about the Chromecast/Android TV

Yes, even the 2015 version is way better than Mi Box S.

If you can find a Pro in stock, yes. Fuck the tube.

The Tube works great for 1080p content but not 4K files. It’ll do fine for 4k streaming

I just bought and returned a tube because there weren’t any Pro in stock and I figured I’d give it a try. Unfortunately the Plex app would routinely crash on 4K HDR files, especially remuxes but also TV/Movie encodes. I went back to my 2015 shield with no issues (though no DV support or AI upscaling which was actually really good)

If you stream uncompressed 4k 60 fps HDR/Vision or if you play games, the shield is worth it.

If all you do is watch netflix or disney+ or prime or another streaming service, the Mi Box is fine for your needs and you can save some money.

You're worried about it being too new? If anything, its an improvement on the original (the pro anyway). I don't know much about the tube version but I remember reading some reviews indicating negative performance.

Just picked one up over the weekend. Absolutely love it. Runs 4KHDR/Dolby Vision, AND HD Audio (DTS:X, Atmos, DTS MHDA, Dolby TrueHD). Used a bunch of devices in the past, none could do the HD audio part. Huge selling point for me. Xbox, LG webOS, Firetv, none could do HD audio via Plex.

If there are problems Nvidia will fix them. I've never had a product that has had better support and that includes iPhones I've owned. All products will have issues but do you trust that they'll be addressed

How do you see the lack of VP9-2? Even Mi Box have it hardware accelerated.
