Little effort is put into the consumer version of android tv. Even worse, they locked it up like am apple device. If google doesnt want to do crap, fine, but let nova launcher and others try some stuff. Yes, you have Lord Netflix and copyright worries but there has to be a better way.
Another Android Police garbage. These days due to pandemic crisis there aren't too much tech news.
So how media (not all but many) can keep their views and clicks still high? Releasing polarizing articles, rants and hate. Because sex, blood and violence sell.
These days of crisis see movies, read books, sleep, exercise, video call your granny, gardening. Stay away from media because they gonna be more toxic than ever.
Multiple profiles on Android TV would be useless & redundant. The apps themselves have the multiple user profiles, not the OS.
If you want multiple profiles just buy a full Android box and shut the heck up crying about something not intended to be what you wish it was can't do what you wish it could....
I live in the UK and have Shield TV (2015). Here's my thoughts, despite being Android, it lacks major apps! The BBC have not done an official app, the one on Shield TV is actually made by Nvidia themselves as their isn't an official one. Also lacks All 4, NowTV and Sky Go and before anyone says the reason for them missing is because of X reason my PlayStation 4 even has these apps!
The android interface is meh, hardly any customisation and to get around having seperate profiles u am using handheld launcher to make rows.
Now hardware, the shield is the most powerful hardware for Android TV, but it is still 5 year old technology! The specification is like a 2015/16 flagship phone.
firetv version of youtube let you choose a profile every it launches
Just wait until google launches their new Android TV puck at the end of this year, running Android Q and updated UI.
Idk man I can live without user profiles if they'd just stop putting more fucking ads on my Sony Bravia's home screen.
Like most Google products, it's designed and tested by Google people who live alone in the US.
While she does make a good point, picking a profile on the launcher would be easier, this article is slightly 1 sided perspective. Like she said, a different user can be selected with in every app I have every used. So sure its more tedious, but its still possible. Sure I would also prefer having it more centralized, but to me and my girlfriend this is much less of an issue than the writer makes it out to me.
In addition, she mentions Apple TV and others has multi user profile selection, but I just did a quick research and neither Roku or Fire TV has multi user feature either. So that means NONE of the top 3 TV operating systems that come built into TV's support multi user profiles. I also own a Eoku TV and 1 Fire Stick and never seen that feature either. So its not really a feature from other TV OS as far as I can see.
I'm in support of Google putting multi user profile selection with in the main launcher, but its far from a deal breaker or major issue for my house hold. Even lacking this feature Android TV is still far superior to any other TV OS that comes built into TV's. Apple TV is the only one in my opinion that gives Android TV a run for its money. However since Apple TV does not come built into TV's that give Google's Android TV a huge advantage.
I am sure with time Google will add the multi user profile feature. Just like they did later for Google Assistant. People asked for multiple users in Google Assistant after the launch of Google Home devices, and they did. So I am sure its a matter of time with in the next year.
yes I agree with the article, it's a ridiculous OS
Android has everything to be a good system, but Android are only a good system in smartphones. Everyday I think my Mi Box could be more useful but that’s not the reality :/
Android TV is a joke . i dropped that shit quick and bought a Apple 4K. Never looked back
You speak for yourself and that's good. Myself I havr found quite a good experience. I don't imagine using anything else than that. I tried Fire TV, Roku apple TV. And found nothing integrating in my environment like Android.
I use Google homes and have a Pixel so. If you have amazon echos and that kind of stuff then go for a fire TV I guess. And if you are an apple guy then go for the Apple TV. That's how I see it
