I purchased a Google Nexus Player back in 2015 and have been using it occasionally since then. I now use an Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K as my primary media player but I'm looking for a way to download and seed torrents without having to use a PC. The Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K is not ideal for that because of its 8 GB internal storage capacity and no support for NTFS. The Google Nexus Player also has 8 GB of internal storage capacity but my device has an unlocked bootloader, is rooted with Magisk and supports NTFS through StickMount . The installed operating system is stock Android TV 7.1.2 and I have used an app with root access to disable system updates. What I'm planning to do is connect a high speed 256 GB USB flash drive to the Nexus Player with a micro USB 2.0 OTG adapter cable and use the external storage for downloading and seeding torrents. The torrent client that I use on my Android devices is tTorrent which is quite versatile. Has anyone here used a Google Nexus Player or a similar device for this purpose? My main concern is the 1 GB of RAM and how that may affect the ability to seed multiple torrents simultaneously.
Update 1: It turns out that tTorrent does not detect external storage through StickMount. If I format the USB drive in Android and choose the removable storage option, then it can be seen in apps like X-plore File Manager and Solid Explorer but tTorrent still won't allow me to use that location for downloads.
Update 2: I ultimately decided not to use the Nexus Player for torrents. I ended up using Transmission for LibreELEC on my Dell Optiplex 3020 small form factor PC. Aside from Transmission's web interface, the Transdrone app for Android also allows me to load torrents and control Transmission.
Just get a small form pc and Fedora/Ubuntu. I have an ex business HP running Ubuntu LTS that I use as my media server and torrent downloads (with Shield as a front end), but Dell also a good choice.. the Nexus Player is a terrible option for what you want to do.
