Portable Android TV Gaming Console

by oliverhorne06

I've been looking to get into making a portable retro gaming device for a while now, I was looking to get a raspberry Pi but before I ordered it I came across an Android TV box that has never been used in my basement that my dad ordered last year. I was wondering if anyone has tried making a portable gaming console out of an Android TV, or if it's even possible.

Thanks

There are many emulators that work well with Android such as retro arch. Butmaking it portable, I'm not sure.

It would be very impractical, because devices like GPD XD and Shield Portable already exists

I've been using one of these with Project 64 on a chinese streambox running android and it works pretty well.

Just get a Bluetooth controller, they usually expand outward to let you mount a phone or tablet in the middle, thus turning it into some kind of Poor Mans Switch device. Emulator apps are cheap and a bit easier as you only need to point it to the ROM director and map the buttons on the controller. RetroARCH is free, but has a learning curve which takes longer for some to configure right.

I use a $40 BEBONCOOL controller, with a 10" Lenovo Android tablet sandwiched in in Portrait mode (wont fit landscape) and it works pretty well for a DS emulator.
