Mibox4 (s) AC WiFi speed

by valimaki

I just got this little box yesterday, it is connected to a 5GHz wifi router (ac1300, asus rt-ac68u), distance is about 20cm from the router.

I have tested the connection speed with Analiti, I get 60Mbps, my internet connection is 200Mbps and I get those 200Mbps with other devices connected to the same WiFi in the home.

Is that it? Is the WiFi on this device that slow?

I am on Android 9 and so far I am not impresed. The Netflix app needs some time to reach a good bitrate while the native app on my TV is much faster, it starts on full quality always.

I bought it mainly to use it with Disney+ because my TV won't get the app :(.

try moving it away from the router to at least 1m. pretty sure 20cm is actually too close.

TV also has rf shielding that could interfere, i'd keep the router away from it.

Do a factory reset after the update and a lot of issues go away.

You should easily see 150Mbps

I also got lots of connection drops, so I ended buying a tp-link ethernet adapter, it arrived today. So far so good, we will see how it works in the long term.

Total 64€(mibox + adapter). For me the ethernet adapter was a must, so anyone interested in this unit should take that into account.

60Mbps is definitely a bit low. Mine can reach 109Mbps+ speedtest with -59dBm RSSI. Same AP as yours(AC68U).

But in order for me to get this speed, I have to put the box upright to make it receive signal better. I also have to change 5G channel to 149+ to optimize the AP power output.

However in such short distance as OP mentioned, these setting shouldn't make any different(My AP is in a different room with several obstacle in the way). In this distance I would connect it with gigabit USB ethernet adapter, which is way better than the wifi speed.

p.s. MiBox's wifi is 1x1 configuration that doesn't support MIMO, which cap its phy speed at maximum 433Mbps. The max real life speed should be around ~190Mbps at the best.
